Great Things From the Week:

Thank you for getting second trimester report cards complete!

Great job to Pham, Hawthorne and Gainer for a great walk!

Thank you to the team that attend Triple Crown Elementary and gleaned some cool ideas from them!

Thank you to Sanci for not only covering Roe and I last week while we were out, but for directing an awesome Black History assembly! The student participation and Artwork was incredible!

Thank you Shelley for keeping the Tiger Store running, thank you staff for continuing to give points out.

Thank you to you all for advertising Saturday School! We had 62 students participate!

Grade Level  Assignments for Next Year-

Lori will be putting grade level assignment request forms in your box soon. Please make sure you fill those out and get back to Lori by March 6th. My goal is to have your assignments out to you in early April so you can begin planning for next year. Additionally, if there are any physical classroom moves I want to give you time to plan and prepare.

Writing-

The kinder team and I went to some other schools to look at writing. We specifically looked at Pre-writing activities. What we saw was so cool! Students were writing, independently, at high levels. It was evident that the Pre-writing activities really made a difference. Some of the things we saw were multiple sources, whole group discussion, word banks, word webs, and lots student partner talk using sentence frames. The students then went and wrote independently producing high quality writing. We also discovered teachers are spending a lot of time on writing. Students were involved in the writing process daily (each writing pieces took several days ie, sources, brainstorm, collaboration, writing) AND they wrote EVERYDAY.

Biggest take away... "IF THEY CAN TALK ABOUT IT, THEY CAN WRITE ABOUT IT"

Construction Update-

Currently, the kindergarten area is slated to be complete by Summer - I am unsure about moving back in, I will keep you posted (with office under construction it may be too loud in first two rooms, we will keep looking at this).

Kinder playground should be back in full use next year. We will have to continue to review drop off and pick up, (Office construction may block the circle, we are still talking about this)

New building will be complete by summer, office will be moved to new building over the summer. We have a plan for the staff lounge to be the first room, health office the second room, front office the third room (only room accessible by gate for parents). Room 4/5 Admin/conference rooms and additional as needed. All rooms have interior access for staff, ie you can go from room 1-5 without going outside). Students will need to access all of these spaces through room 2 (health office).

*These are not going to be the room numbers I am just using them as an example

The new parking lot by new building will be complete this summer, will hopefully be used for buses. We will have temporary gates installed to direct community to office and prevent them from accessing campus.

Staff Parking Lot will remain parking for the staff, we will likely move the chain so enter and exit remain the same as they currently are, no new exit until after the circle is completely open. (AKA old exist still out of use)

Depending on the circle closure, we will have to pivot as needed to receive and exit students from campus. We will continue to discuss this.

I appreciate your flexibility as we work through construction. It is never easy.

Upcoming Staff Meeting-

Sarah will be here with us on 3/11 to discuss Note-Taking Strategies

Remember to continue to tie in your EQ- since this upcoming meeting on the 11th will be reviewing Note Taking. All of this is to support students in evidence based writing.
