Great Things From the Week:
A big thank you to the entire team, you are all Rock Stars!
Congratulations Shanda - Teacher of the Year!
Number Bonds in Kindergarten
Writing in Kindergarten
Thank you Sally and Marci for getting readers for Read Across America.
Thank you to all for Kindness Week!
Thank you Lori and Amy for setting up all the Observation dates, IEPs and calendars in general - please make sure as you are planning activities, especially end of year, your talk with these two and make sure the calendar is clear.
Thank you all for your professionalism with Janet - Most of you are already doing new rotations, if not please get those in place by the start of the new trimester.
Report cards are due Monday Feb 24th, please have them complete by then for review - Roe or I will send you an email letting you know we reviewed them.
Writing-
The kinder team and I went to some other schools to look at writing. We specifically looked at Pre-writing activities. What we saw was so cool! Students were writing, independently, at high levels. It was evident that the Pre-writing activities really made a difference. Some of the things we saw were multiple sources, whole group discussion, word banks, word webs, and lots student partner talk using sentence frames. The students then went and wrote independently producing high quality writing. We also discovered teachers are spending a lot of time on writing. Students were involved in the writing process daily (each writing pieces took several days ie, sources, brainstorm, collaboration, writing) AND they wrote EVERYDAY.
Biggest take away... "IF THEY CAN TALK ABOUT IT, THEY CAN WRITE ABOUT IT"
Upcoming Staff Meeting-
Please go back with your team and decide how you are going to post the three Close Reading Protocols. We will make posters for you if you chose, your grade level need to have posters up and using them by Monday 2/24.
Rememeber tie in your EQ- our next meeting will go over Note Taking. All of this is to support students in evidence based writing.
