Great Things From the Week:
Congratulations Anne Peterson on becoming a Grandmother! Welcome to the Harrison family Scarlett.
Sarah and I walked most classes on Friday- Thank you for posting your "Big Ideas" and Essential Questions.
Thank you all for your support with ELPAC and Miles for Smiles
Thank you to the STEP team for your compassion and taking care of all kids. I know the job can be a lot. You are appreciated.
Thank you 3-6 for meeting with Janet and really digging in. I really appreciate your conversation and intention with students.
Thank you Roe and Sanci for getting Kindness Week together and out!
Thank you to the kindergarten team for visiting two school sites and making collective goals.
Thank you to the SST team for pulling together two IEPs last minute last week. Thank you for what you do for kids.
Thank you Shanda for attending the technology meeting.
Thank you team for keeping Harrison together on Thursday. All day meetings are tough.
Thank you to the entire team for holding IEPs all day on the 4th. I know it is a long day but it is great to sit and get kids what they need.
Writing-
The kinder team and I went to some other schools to look at writing. We specifically looked at Pre-writing activities. What we saw was so cool! Students were writing, independently, at high levels. It was evident that the Pre-writing activities really made a difference. Some of the things we saw were multiple sources, whole group discussion, word banks, word webs, and lots student partner talk using sentence frames. The students then went and wrote independently producing high quality writing. We also discovered teachers are spending a lot of time on writing. Students were involved in the writing process daily (each writing pieces took several days ie, sources, brainstorm, collaboration, writing) AND they wrote EVERYDAY.
Biggest take away... "IF THEY CAN TALK ABOUT IT, THEY CAN WRITE ABOUT IT"
Upcoming Staff Meeting-
Be ready to share out, how are EQs going. This week will we be diving into Close Reading. We will continue to make connections with Essential Questions. Next staff meeting is Note Taking.
