We are calling it ACES- Arlington Cluster Equity Symposium. We are bringing in Victor Rios as our Keynote Speaker and are working to provide Break Out Sessions. Please SAVE THE DATE. This will likely be held from 9 am-3 pm. This is a Saturday, which is the only time we can give all staff her opportunity to get together to learn and grow. This is a voluntary opportunity, but you WON'T WANT TO MISS IT!
I will let you know as soon as tickets are released, it will be first come first served!!! Make sure you sign up as soon as you see the email.
As we dig deeper into data and meeting the needs of students everyday, I want to remind you that you have the freedom to make professional decisions about your classroom. How and what you teach should be intentional and specific to the needs of your students. Whole group/small group/1:1 - you need to make these instructional decisions and adjust as needed based on data. You need to be free to try new things, make mistakes and adjust for the needs of kids. As long as you can justify why you are doing what you are doing, we are good with it.
Make sure as you feel the pressure that you reflect. We can not take or adjust the amount of time we have, but we can adjust what we do with that time....if you are doing things because you always have and there is no data to support the work, free yourself and stop. Focus on the essentials and let go of all of the rest. You are free to focus.

Thank you team for your hard work and focus on evidence based writing. We will be having our follow up meeting here at Harrison on 12/3. Please work with Lori to get your subs for this day. We will be looking at shifts in practice and outcomes in student work. Our goal is to take:
The standards
The framework
Sources (Media)
Intentionally teach the Pre-writing process to demonstrate evidence gathering. Allow students to construct a writing piece and we will evaluate their use of evidence in writing.
Additional consideration:
Close Reading
RACE
Listening/Speaking
Multiple Media
Modality of instruction of evidence based activities
Intentionally supporting students with intentional language based sentence frames/stems
Intentional decisions about collaboration/independent/whole class, etc.
More opportunities for quick/free writes
